When you have your banjo in standard tuning, you can play a G major chord without doing anything with the left hand!
Brush lightly across the strings with your right hand. You can strum with the fingers or the thumb – try it and see what’s most comfortable for you.
G is a great key for playing along with other people and a lot of well known songs are in the key of G Major. For example play ‘Ring of Fire’ by Johnny Cash or ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ by Van Morrison or ‘Time of your life’ by Green Day and you will find you can just strum your banjo along with the songs quite easily as all of them are in the key of G..
